Does Dr. Kane provide therapy?
Dr. Kane specializes exclusively in assessment services. Although his professional experience encompasses therapeutic support, he is not offering individual adult, adolescent, or family therapy at this time.
Who can be scheduled for an assessment with Dr. Kane?
Dr. Kane is licensed to evaluate children (6 years & older), adolescents, and adults.
How is testing different from therapy?
A neuropsychological assessment is structured to diagnose and understand cognitive strengths & weaknesses - like a detective gathering information.
Therapy is an ongoing treatment process focused on managing symptoms, making changes, and improving well-being - like a guide helping you on a journey.
What types of assessments are offered?
Dr. Kane provides Comprehensive Neuropsychological Assessments, Psychological Testing & Evaluations, Intelligence Testing, Educational Testing, and Twice Exceptional (2e) Evaluations. To learn more, please refer to Assessment Services for additional details.
Why include educational testing if there are no academic concerns?
It is important to see the entire picture in order to provide appropriate recommendations. For example, a child with a high intellect who is performing within an average range in academics may be underperforming due to a neurological difference (i.e., AD/HD) or an emotional vulnerability (i.e., anxiety). A comprehensive neurological assessment can provide critical insight into strengths and challenges.
How is a private neuropsychological assessment different from a school evaluation?
To learn about the scope and practice of private neuropsychological assessments and public school evaluations. For additional details, read the Scope & Practice.
What kind of supporting documents should be shared with Dr. Kane?
For school-aged children: Please share previous evaluations (Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy), academic records (report cards, standardized testing), school-related supports (Individualized Education Program (IEP), Evaluation Summary, Annual Review and Progress Monitoring, Section 504 Accommodations, or private school learning support plan).
All Clients: Please share relevant records (events, dates) concerning emotional, behavioral, or cognitive functioning.
